Join a vibrant campus community whose excellence is reflected in its diversity and student success. West Chester University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Health invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Public Health to begin in August 2022. 

West Chester University, a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, is a public, comprehensive institution committed to offering high-quality undergraduate education, selected post-baccalaureate and graduate programs, and a variety of educational and cultural resources for its students, alumni, and citizens of southeastern Pennsylvania. The University offers more than 100 graduate and undergraduate programs in the sciences and mathematics, business and public management, arts and humanities, health sciences, education and social work, music, and interdisciplinary studies. We are a community of educators dedicated to developing graduates who succeed personally and professionally and contribute to the common good.

The College of Health Sciences mission is to prepare and inspire health leaders, professionals, and consumers through collaborative and innovative approaches to education, research and community service. The Department of Health offers four undergraduate majors, three undergraduate minors, a CEPH accredited Master of Public Health Program and two graduate certificates.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching two or more of the following courses: Health Care Technology and Information Management; Strategic Leadership in Health Care; Public Health Law, Ethics, Economics, and Policy or Health Care Delivery
  • Maintaining an active scholarship and research agenda involving students 
  • Mentoring and advising Public Health students 
  • Serving the University and the community through participation in various committees

The typical teaching assignment involves a 4:4 blended undergraduate and graduate load (three maximum preps per semester.)

Department programs are offered in a face-to-face format, online and with hybrid classes, and offsite.


Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate (such as DrPH, PhD, ScD) in Public Health or other public health related discipline such as health care management, health care administration, public administration, health policy, health sciences informatics, or nursing/clinical leadership
  • ABD with completion by appointment date will be considered
  • Demonstrated record of conducting research in one the following areas in public health law, ethics, and/or policy; strategic leadership in health care; health care technology and information management; health care management or quality assurance/patient safety

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate and graduate level public health courses
  • Professional experience in one of the priority areas of expertise: strategic leadership in health care; health care technology and information management; health care management; quality assurance/patient safety, health care law or policy
  • MPH/MS from a CEPH accredited program or MHA from an accredited program
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to engage in funded scholarship activities that result peer-reviewed presentations and publications.
  • Online teaching experience
