The City of Valdez Planning Department is accepting applications for a full-time Building Inspector.

Under general supervision of the Planning Director, reviews commercial, industrial, and residential plans/specifications for compliance with City building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related code requirements and other regulations. Field inspections of residential and commercial projects will be required for this position.  

Qualified candidates must meet the following criteria.

• A High school diploma or GED equivalent. 
• Minimum of two years college education in a related field.
• Five (5) years’ construction and/or building inspection experience.
• Two years’ experience in plan review.
• An equivalent combination of education and/or experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position may be substituted.
• Current certification as a Plans Examiner by the International Code Council (ICC) or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
• Current ICC Building Inspector (IBC) or (IRC) Certification or ability to obtain both certificates within one year of hire.
• Incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional technical, trades or inspection certifications.
• Possess and maintain a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License. Will be required to provide authorization for driver’s license history screening.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

This is a fully benefited exempt position working a minimum of 40 hours per week earning $93,384 - $106,700 annually DOE/DOQ.
