About Us: The Touchstone Diabetes Center is dedicated to researching the cells and tissues involved in diabetes and related diseases. Our work spans both basic and clinical research on Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, including the effects of obesity on cardiovascular disease and cancer incidence. The Metabolic Phenotyping Core (MPC) provides state-of-the-art analytical and phenotypical measures to the scientific community both inside and outside UT Southwestern Medical Center. Our goal is to expand the scope of techniques available to investigators, standardize key methodologies, and expedite the completion of research on diseases related to metabolic disorders (diabetes and obesity), cancer, aging neurological disorders, etc.
We are seeking highly motivated candidates to join our Core lab team and contribute to a wide range of cutting-edge research services. These include mass spectrometry-based bioanalytical assays, immunoassays, enzymatic assays, and in vivo rodent phenotyping studies. Candidates with a Chemistry major are strongly preferred.
Requirements
Micro-CT scanning services. Operate and assist core users to perform in-vivo and ex-vivo small animals’ studies.
Small animals’ anesthesia machine. Clean, maintain and keep inspections up to date.
Urine cages. Assist setting up animal studies and cleaning.
Assist with ELISA and Magnetic bead Mapping Multiplex Technology. Hormones and cytokines biomarkers assays.
Assist with VITROS clinical analyzer operations.
Manage service request queue.
Record and document research data according to established procedures, discussing results with the supervisor.
Assist in data collection for project reports and literature review for new procedures.
Conduct sample preparation for mass spectrometry-based workflows, including lipid and small molecule metabolite extractions from biological samples.
Operate and maintain multiple liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) instruments.
Perform fresh frozen tissue cryosectioning to support imaging mass spectrometry workflows.
Assemble, maintain and operate various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
Laboratory housekeeping, organization and supervision of consumables.
Oversee the procurement and management of consumables, ensuring adequate inventory levels
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
While specific experience is preferred, we are willing to train the right candidate. Strong attention to detail is essential. Ability to maintain a neat and clean work environment. Able to work independently with minimal supervision. Being able to lift 20 lbs. Being able to walk and go up and down stairs. Duties might require standing for certain periods of time.
Additional Requirements:

Experience and Education: Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field. Experience: Job title and rank will depend on the candidate’s level of experience and hands-on expertise.
