
Description
Manages the day-to-day workflow of the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) staff and provides clinical documentation improvement expertise; Serves as the organization's expert in Clinical Documentation and in partnership with the Executive Director, Revenue Cycle and Clinical Practice Plan, assesses, formulates, and implements Clinical Documentation policies and procedures; Partners with executive leadership and Physician Advisors to ensure high quality and production standards are met via data evaluation, direct observation and review of medical records, and daily staff communication; Maintains concurrent and retrospective review expertise to ensure accuracy, specificity, and severity captures are obtained consistently by all reviewers; Resolves CDI-Coder DRG discrepancies working in collaboration with the CDI Physician Advisors and Coding Management Team; Participates in various projects and initiatives within the CDI Department and in the education and onboarding process of all new hires, and performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner that promotes a team approach and collaborative work environment with physicians, CDI staff and coders.
Requirements
License and Certification
License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) Certification; or
Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) Certification; or
Certified Coding Specialist (CSC) Certification.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing, HealthCare or a related field and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in an Acute Care inpatient setting and five (5) years of full-time experience in clinical documentation improvement, including three (3) years in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or
2. Associates' degree in Nursing, HealthCare or a related field and the equivalent of five (5) years of full-time experience in an Acute Care inpatient setting and seven (7) years of full-time experience in clinical documentation improvement, including five (5) years in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
