This job provides direct care to patients within the framework of the LPN Act under supervision of a registered nurse. Assists other members of the healthcare team in providing the highest quality of personalized patient care. Assists and collects bodily fluid specimens during endoscopic exams and procedures. Ensures appropriate handling and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
EducationRequired - Graduate of accredited licensed practical nurse (LPN) program.
Work ExperiencePreferred - 2 years of experience with advanced therapeutic endoscopy procedures
OR
certification in related area.
CertificationsRequired - Current licensed practical nurse (LPN) license in state of practice.
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)- Working knowledge of radiation safety and image storage guidelines.
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability) and travel throughout and between facilities.
Job Duties- Effectively uses the nursing process in the delivery of patient care through data gathering, planning and evaluation.
- Assists with procedures, biopsies and specimen collection.
- Ensures cleanliness and/disinfection of endoscopes and other pertinent equipment while maintaining quality control measures.
- Assists in the evaluation of progress toward expected outcomes on an ongoing basis and provides input in the revision of the plan of care.
- Provides care based on specific holistic age appropriate needs of patients served.
- Delegates and assigns appropriate task to unlicensed team members appropriately and within the scope of practice.
- Safely administers medication and prescribed therapies utilizing appropriate reference materials.
- Effectively adapts to change in a positive manner throughout the day as needs of the unit/department change.
- Prioritizes and implements nursing interventions to promote optimal outcomes.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
- Performs other related duties as required.
