Health Sciences Information Technology provides technology support for the six schools of the Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. The team works to enhance the IT strategy in the Health Sciences and develop a technology organization and platform that supports education, research, and clinical activities. The team can enable the delivery of IT services to meet the goals of the Health Sciences, simplify the environment, and enhance services overall.
The University of Pittsburgh's Health Sciences Information Technology (HSIT) department is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented AV Events and Staff Supervisor to manage and support audio-visual operations and staffing for a wide range of academic, research, and administrative events. This individual will be responsible for coordinating AV logistics, leading and coordinating technical teams, and ensuring seamless execution of in-person, virtual, and hybrid events across Health Sciences schools and facilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Communications, Media Production, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in AV coordination or related technical support roles.
• Strong working knowledge of AV systems, including sound reinforcement, video conferencing, live streaming, and presentation technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse stakeholders including faculty, students, and administrators.
• Proven leadership experience in managing teams and coordinating event logistics.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible schedule to accommodate early morning, evening, or weekend events as needed.
Job Summary
Manages and performs work across multiple areas of the University's Information Technology (IT) platform and infrastructure. Conducts analyses for proposed IT projects. Assists with team members' goal determinations. Provides IT support and coordinates network activities.
Essential Functions
• Coordinate and Oversee AV Support for Health Sciences events including lectures, conferences, webinars, and symposiums.
• Provide Technical Expertise in troubleshooting and operating AV systems, including microphones, projectors, video conferencing systems, Crestron/Extron control systems, and video streaming tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
• Serve as Primary Liaison between event organizers, faculty, and technical staff to ensure all AV needs are met and expectations are aligned.
• Supervises AV Support Staff by assigning tasks, providing training, and overseeing on-site execution.
• Prepare and Maintain Equipment before, during, and after events, ensuring all AV systems are in optimal condition.
• Work Under Pressure to resolve real-time technical issues and prepare and adapt last-minute changes with professionalism and efficiency.
• Document Event Requirements and maintain accurate records of AV setups, configurations, and post-event evaluations.
• Ensure Compliance with university IT and AV standards, as well as ADA accessibility requirements for AV content and delivery.
Physical Effort
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. Must be able to lift and transport computer equipment weighing up to 30 pounds to various campus locations.
On-site presence required.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification: Preferred Qualifications: • CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or similar AV certification. • Experience in a higher education or healthcare environment. • Familiarity with AV-over-IP systems, digital signal processing, and remote monitoring tools. • Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital and multimedia content.
Work Schedule: 8am-4:30pm; May require early morning, evening, or weekend hours depending on event schedules.
Work Arrangement: On-Campus: Teams that work on campus, in an office, or in a lab.
