Position Summary:
Midnight Sun is seeking a Construction Superintendent to support a Federal construction contract for at the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel, Florida. The Superintendent is responsible for managing the overall construction of concurrent projects from kickoff to closeout.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- During design development: participate in meetings with Architects and Engineers to assess scope of work and sequencing; value-engineering, and other input as needed.
- During pre-construction: collaborate with the project team to develop staffing requirements, labor productivity rates, cost estimates, constructability reviews, execution planning, submittal logs, schedules, and subcontractor engagement.
- During construction: maintain a physical presence at the job site at all times and oversee all construction and related activities; scheduling (CPM and short interval); and direct all self-perform trades, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Participate in site visits and meetings to assess scope of work, site conditions, logistics planning, and determine necessary resources to deliver project success.
- Prepare, provide, and track Request for Information (RFI's), Change Orders, and job progress reports to include labor and equipment usage.

Minimum Requirements:
Education/Experience
- 10 years of experience as a general construction contractor.
- 5 years of experience as an on-site superintendent for federal projects.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret complex drawings/plans/specifications for marine/coastal projects to include structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
- Ability to work over and around water in dynamic outdoor environments, including exposure to variable weather conditions, and tides. Swimming proficiency with PPE or other protective gear required.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication (written/verbal) skills.
- Familiarity with marine equipment and vessels, such as barges, cranes, winches, and workboats.
- Knowledge of and adherence to OSHA regulations, U.S. Coast Guard safety standards, and environmental protection protocols related to marine and coastal operations.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and scheduling software (Procore).
Licenses/Certifications/Other
- Valid Driver License
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- OSHA 30 Certification
- USACE CQCM certification desired (not required).
- Must be obtain and maintain client badging and/or site access requirements.
Work Environment:
Performance of the required job duties will be in an office environment along with a marine construction site, which may include various weather conditions and working over deep water. Occasional travel may be required.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Ability to swim in shallow and deep water.
- Ability to walk, stand, kneel, squat, climb, and otherwise navigate active construction areas safely.
- Ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move materials/equipment up to 10 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to use hands to operate computers, phones, and other office or field equipment.
- Ability to climb stairs or ladders and conduct site walkthroughs in unfinished or outdoor areas.
- Visual acuity to read drawings, perform inspections, and review detailed documentation.
