Summary
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the reliability, security, performance, and availability of enterprise database platforms across development, test, production, and disaster recovery environments. This role partners closely with application development, infrastructure, and security teams to design, operate, and continuously improve highly available, scalable database solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Database Operations & Availability
- Ensure data integrity, availability, and performance across Oracle, SQL Server, and other supported database platforms.
- Maintain and test backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures, including participation in annual DR exercises.
- Monitor database health, proactively identify issues, and drive root-cause analysis.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Performance & Optimization
- Perform database performance tuning, capacity planning, and optimization to meet application SLAs.
- Partner with application teams to troubleshoot and resolve database-related performance and stability issues.
Change, Patch & Release Management
- Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations across development, test, production, and DR environments.
- Coordinate patching activities with vendors, infrastructure, and application teams to minimize business impact.
Architecture & Engineering
- Collaborate with development teams on database design, schema changes, and data access patterns.
- Support new application initiatives with guidance on database architecture, availability, and scalability.
Automation & Support
- Develop and maintain scripts and tools to automate routine DBA tasks.
- Open, manage, and resolve vendor support cases, including coordination for maintenance and repairs.
Qualifications:
Required
- Strong hands-on experience administering Oracle and SQL Server databases in production environments.
- Deep understanding of relational database design, implementation, and performance tuning.
- Experience supporting high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems, storage, and SAN technologies.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience with Oracle Exadata, RAC, Active Data Guard, and CDB/PDB architectures.
- Exposure to MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or other non-Oracle / SQL Server platforms.
- Experience with SQL Server SSAS and SSIS.
- Linux shell scripting and automation experience.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database services (OCI, AWS, Azure).

Education / Experience
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of 68+ years of DBA experience.
Language Ability
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.
Math Ability
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to organize and prioritize.
Computer Skills
Windows Server Operating Systems literate. Must understand the coordination of Windows and Microsoft SQL Server.
