OverviewThe Director of Golf is responsible for leading all golf operations to deliver an exceptional experience for members, resort guests, and visitors. This position serves as the face of the golf program, blending operational excellence with genuine hospitality to create a welcoming and engaging club environment.
Key areas of focus include developing and executing a robust calendar of member programming, coordinating local and corporate tournaments, and ensuring a consistent standard of excellence across all golf-related services. The Director of Golf works collaboratively with the agronomy, food & beverage, and resort teams to create memorable experiences that reflect the club's brand and traditions.
Primary responsibilities include overseeing daily golf operations, staff training and performance, retail management, and player development initiatives. A successful Director of Golf will balance the business and service aspects of the role-growing participation and revenues through creative programming while maintaining a personalized, high-touch service culture.
Through leadership, visibility, and a passion for the game, the Director of Golf will inspire engagement, foster community among members, and position the club as a premier golf destination for members, guests, and corporate partners alike.
Experience Required
- PGA of America Membership in good standing (Class A) required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in golf operations, including at least 3 years in a Head Professional or Director-level role.
- Proven success in developing and executing member programming, instructional programs, and tournaments that drive engagement and participation.
- Strong background in event coordination, including local, corporate, and charity tournaments, with an emphasis on high-level service and professional presentation.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver an elevated member and guest experience consistent with private club or resort standards.
- Experience in retail management, budgeting, and financial oversight for golf operations, with a track record of achieving revenue and service goals.
- Excellent leadership and team development skills, with experience mentoring professional staff and fostering a culture of hospitality.
- Familiarity with golf technology platforms (tee sheet, POS, Golf Genius, etc.) and ability to leverage technology to enhance programming and communication.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with members, guests, staff, and ownership.
- Commitment to professional growth, continued education, and representing the club with integrity and enthusiasm.
Essential Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily golf operations, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for members, resort guests, and visitors.
- Develop, schedule, and execute a comprehensive calendar of member events, clinics, and tournaments that promote engagement and participation.
- Coordinate and manage local, corporate, and charity golf tournaments with a focus on service, organization, and presentation.
- Lead, train, and mentor professional staff to maintain high standards of hospitality, professionalism, and performance.
- Collaborate with the agronomy, food and beverage, and resort teams to create cohesive and memorable golf experiences.
- Manage the golf shop operation, including merchandising, budgeting, inventory control, and retail presentation.
- Oversee player development programs for adults and juniors, including lessons, clinics, and golf schools.
- Maintain effective communication with members, guests, and ownership through newsletters, meetings, and personal interaction.
- Develop and monitor operational budgets, revenue goals, and expense controls for all areas of golf operations.
- Ensure compliance with all club policies, procedures, and PGA standards of conduct.
- Uphold and promote the values, traditions, and culture of the club through visible leadership and active participation in club life.
