Established in 1916 the Yakima Country Club is a private member owned Club located in Yakima, Washington. The Par 72 Championship 18- hole golf course is 6,500 yards in length from the back tees. Boasting several amazing characteristics it is indeed one of central Washington's finest courses. This private course offers a great experience and challenge to members and guests of all abilities. Four sets of tees provide a challenge for any golf enthusiast: from the adamant expert to the casual weekend golfer. You can enjoy your game amidst the wonderful surroundings of the Yakima Valley. The Position | Head Golf Professional
The Head Professional (HP) generally operates independently with periodic core management meetings to collaborate on issues with the Yakima Country Club (YCC) PGA General Manager as well as interfacing with other Club committees. Responsibilities include hiring and supervision of the smaller front-line staff who serve the Club's members and public guests in the golf shop. Plus, this position will provide supporting coordination to enhance the leadership of Superintendent, the Golf Committee, etc.
Successful development of new and sustainable revenues in golf, in close coordination with the F&B department, will be key to the future of this position. Further, promotion, execution and organization of golf-related activities (internal and external), management of Golf Shop merchandise, club fitting, player development and coordination with a team of golf instructors will be the key areas of focus. Representing the Club in the Yakima, WA community and county as "The Mayor of Golf" in the area will also be important. This position supervises approximately 10 to 18 regular and part-time staff, but is considered hands-on as well.
Experience Required
The successful candidate is expected to have, but not limited to, the following.
- PGA Class A Member in good standing strongly preferred.
In addition, 2-3 years of experience as a PGA Head Golf Professional or higher is preferred...previous experience with demonstrable leadership as a First/Senior/Lead Assistant at a private club required. - Strong handicapping knowledge, Golf Genius or similar strongly preferred, with the capacity to lead a team to deliver a strong, consistent member-centric tournament operation highly preferred.
- Proven success and experience managing golf shop merchandising, including inventory management, reporting required.
- Experience working in close coordination with a robust Food & Beverage department.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills delivered with high emotional intelligence will be highly preferred.
- Strong computer proficiency, with some experience in producing online communication, social media, etc.

Essential Responsibilities
Significant Duties and Responsibilities:
- Hire, supervise, and manage Golf Operations/Professional staff to create a member-centric experience, including member recognition training. Similarly, providing a memorable experience for our guests from all over Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Northern California and the West should be a focus.
- Train all Team members to increase the levels of service in all facets including levels of service, greeting, presentation and the aspects of anticipating member and guest needs.
- Provide/assist with tournament planning and associated operations for members and for outside groups. Growth of member events and member engagement opportunities should be considered.
- Coordinate with YCC GM in new member on-boarding, providing them with an appropriate orientation to build and maintain a healthy Club culture.
- Plan for/oversee Golf Shop merchandise purchasing, merchandising and sell-through to drive sales, multiple turns of inventory annually while maintaining a cost of goods sold (COGS) of 78% or lower.
- Coordinate and communicate with the GM and club accounting on report on sales, receivables, payables, etc. per requests and in forms/timeliness requested.
- Foster and develop beneficial relationships with all vendors.
- Oversight of all golf instruction/player development programming to create and deepen member engagement, attract new members and new member families.
- Design, build and lead the golf professional team in the delivery of an exceptional junior golf program that will be considered a leader for private clubs in Central WA. Collaborate with the First Tee of Yakima for the benefit of both parties in a way that drives recruitment, member engagement and value for the family units within the YCC community.
- Represents the club in communications and interactions with the PGA (Chapter, Section, National), local charities and businesses, amateur and junior golf associations (local, regional, national), as well as with other golf clubs (local, state, national).
- Create, foster and nurture good rapport with local media resources including TV, radio and print; posting of results in the local paper.
Additional Duties:
- In coordination with the Club's GM, lead in the fiscal planning/budget monitoring of the entire operation.
- Work with other core managers in the successful, seamless and profitable operations of the Clubhouse, including the Golf Shop, Snack Bar, Bar and Banquet Operations.
- Play a leadership role in the mentoring, coaching and training of staff employed by the Yakima Country Club.
- Act in the role of "Club Leader/Ambassador" for Yakima Country Club.
- Periodically play with club members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key position goal attributes for sustained success:
- Managing all aspects of the golf operations and play on the golf course through seeking continuous improvement to include hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and developing of the Golf Operations team at YCC.
- Retaining, improving and executing existing member golf events, while seeking new opportunities to attract outside group events through customized, guest-centric delivery.
- Developing and executing new golf course initiatives and programs to grow member activation, member retention and new member acquisition.
- Elevating the presentation of the golf shop, cart staging, practice facility, etc. at the Yakima Country Club to make it the pride of the YCC membership and community at large.
- Act as super-user for golf course point of sale system and tee sheet.
- Partner with YCC General Manager, their designee (Full Charge Bookkeeper) on all golf operations related accounting to consistently produce all required reports.
Benefits
Compensation and Benefits
The club will provide a competitive compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but not limited to:
- Base salary range of $75,000-80,000 based on experience and qualifications of successful candidate. Total anticipated compensation: $95,000
- 100% of lesson income for private (1:1) lessons and club fitting; 100% of group/clinic instruction for women, juniors, couples, men, etc. (Recently this has been in the $5,000-11,000 range.)
- The HP will be eligible for Golf Shop Merchandising incentives. Specifically, the incentive will be allocated based on three metrics- an established end of month inventory level based on an open to buy guidelines, gross sales and net income of department. In recent years, gross sales have ranged from $337k-$472k. (Possible range $1,500-$15,000)
- Health insurance will be available for the HP individually with fees based on YCC policies. Similarly, dental and vision insurance for the HP will be available.
- Per YCC policies, HP will be eligible to participate in the Club's retirement plan after 1 year (Simple IRA)
- Reimbursement for Central WA PGA Chapter Pro-Am entry fees (or similar), up to 12 events per season (when playing with different members during each of these events, based on reasonable effort, member's schedules, etc.)
- Per YCC policies, vacation/PTO for the HP will be one (1) week for first year of work; two (2) weeks after 2nd year
- YCC will reimburse HP for preapproved professional development/education and budget travel to PGA Show
- YCC will pay the HPs PGA dues when in "good standing." HP will receive family golf and social privileges per YCC policies; Club will provide HP with cell phone allowance and one $3 meal per shift worked.
