Head Golf Professional Job Description

Position Concept: As a member of the Golf Management Team the Head Golf Professional has the responsibility for the overall day-to-day management of the golf operation.

Supervised by = Director of Golf

This position supervises

• Assistant Golf Professional(s)
• Outside Supervisor
• Golf Shop Manager
• Golf Shop & Outside Service Staff

Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Training, supervising, personal development, and corrective action in accordance with labor laws.
• Responsible for the day to day operations of the golf shop and staff.
• Oversee and enforce all Primland policies and procedures.
• Oversee the reservation system, starting, monitoring, and pace of play.
• Create and delegate tasks to golf staff.
• Schedule and chair regular staff meetings. Create a daily AM meeting (5-10) that covers the major highlights and tasks that need to be completed.
• Including Golf Shop Email and returning voicemails.
• Track and verify all guests, green fees, golf cars, club care, and other fees necessary, and maintain accurate accounting and recordkeeping.
• Coordinate and implement teaching philosophies and principles.
• Creation, execution, and follow up to all member and guest events.
• Meet, greet, and entertain potential members, guests, and patrons.
• Enforce all rules and regulations governing golf course usage (Both guest and staff).
• Assist with creation of golf packages, yield management, and tournament rounds.
• Assist in overseeing fiscal areas and performance of the golf operation including planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and correction.
• Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent and other department heads.
• Play golf with guests, raters, and staff when time permits.

• Supervise in accordance with Outside Supervisor the operations of a well-managed practice facility.
• Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment.
• Supervision of our rental program. (Renting and keeping updated)
• Administer the Rules of Golf and educate staff.
• Develop and maintain a customer database.
• Supervise physical inventories.
• Maintain accurate recordkeeping.
• Supervise and train golf shop employees to maximize sales opportunities.
• Maintain an attractive and orderly appearance in and around the golf shop.
• Ensure evaluations and annual reviews are completed and recorded for all applicable staff.
• Attend Primland staff meetings. (Operations, Leaders, Morning Rallies)
• Maintain safety standards.
• Oversee the use and payment of our handicap program.
• Adhere to, enforce, and implement general policies and procedures of Primland.
• Coordinate plans with other managers when working with different departments.

Knowledge, Skills and Traits

• Bachelor's Degree.
• Maintain PGA of America membership in good standing.
• Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations.
• Fundamental supervisory practices.
• Act as a role model for all employees and represent Primland in a positive manner.
• Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
• Self-motivated with desire to promote and market Primland.
• Experienced in written and oral communications.
• Up-to-date on all things Primland and golf related.
• Cross trained in all guest areas and activities offered by Primland
• Computer skills including; Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in email (GMail), internet, tournament programs (Golf Genius) and guest database.
• Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, and trade shows to keep current in business trends.
• Maintain a credible golf game.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
