Description
Students in this jobshadowing role will gain firsthand exposure to the fastpaced, peoplecentered world of hospitality and tourism. This experience is designed to help participants understand daily operations, observe industry professionals, and build foundational skills that support future careers in hotels, restaurants, travel services, event planning, and tourism management.
Program Timeline
First Three Weeks: Students will receive industry instruction from MATC staff and get the chance to tour the City of Milwaukee
Last five weeks: Students will be placed in various organizations for their internship.
Every Friday: Students will come back together to discuss their experience and do career readiness workshops.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe daily operations across departments such as front desk, guest services, housekeeping, food & beverage, events, or tourism services.
- Shadow industry professionals to learn how they interact with guests, solve problems, and maintain service standards.
- Assist with basic tasks appropriate for a student trainee, such as greeting guests, organizing materials, preparing spaces, or supporting event setup.
- Learn customer service principles including communication, professionalism, and guest satisfaction.
- Explore behindthescenes processes such as reservations, scheduling, safety procedures, and facility management.
- Participate in team meetings or briefings to understand workflow, priorities, and collaboration.
- Reflect on daily experiences through journals, checklists, or discussions with mentors.
Requirements
Must be a current MPS high school junior or senior. Special preference to students enrolled in a NAF Academy at one of the following schools: Audubon, Bay View, Madison, Marshall, North Division, Reagan, South Division, Vincent and Washington. Especially students in the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism
Strong interest in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry
Must have good school attendance
