SUMMARY
Open Until Filled-
Work with the CCR Director and Leadership- in teaching, planning, marketing, and coordinating the College's CCR programs including Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency, Adult High School, Corrections, and English as a Second Language programs. The position of an instructional specialist in CCR is a demanding one that involves the?delivery of instruction, preparation and evaluation of such instruction, completing documentation related to state and federal compliance, onboarding new students, and teaching day and evening classes at multiple instruction sites as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct assigned classes of instruction in the best manner to achieve student learning; present information, ideas, and skills in ways that are appropriate to a variety of learning styles and that show sensitivity to a diverse student population.
- Assist with planning and coordinating all aspects of program.
- Maintain currency in content areas through appropriate professional development.
- Teach assigned classes using a variety of instructional methods and educational software to achieve student learning according to expected outcomes.
- Assist with promoting program internally and externally.
- Assist with recruiting, training and scheduling part-time instructors; prepare all documentation required for compliance with College and state regulations.
- Assist with representing the College at professional conferences and workshops.
- Assist with monitoring policies as they relate to the program, including monitoring and reviewing instructors' contracts, time sheets, and ensuring compliance with College's requirements for staff and instructors.
- Assist with maintaining appropriate records documenting student achievement and progress. Assist with maintaining records of student assessments, instructor progress reports, and other information relevant to North Carolina Community College's Performance Measures.
- Assist with coordinating appropriate training and on-going staff development for instructors consistent with research findings and practices in the field of adult education.
- Assist with auditing classes and assure compliance as required by the Internal Audit Plan. Evaluate and respond to audit concerns, and provide follow-up documentation/report.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Dean of College and Career Readiness.
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
- Prior experience teaching, facilitating workshops, training, or counseling adults required.
- Prior experience teaching ESL preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel required
- Experience using educational software such as Essential Education, Edgenuity, Burlington English, EdReady preferred
- Experience in adult education preferred
- Familiarity with state compliance requirements preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment can include jails and other correctional facilities.
- Generally works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
- Some walking, standing, and bending required, and the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
- In addition to regular office hours, position sometimes requires overtime and/or evening hours.
