Description

We are currently representing an exciting and top performing equity hedge fund who are looking to build coverage in Japan Financials, a space they believe offers exceptional investment opportunities.

This is a new initiative for the team, so they are seeking a highly experienced professional who can take ownership of this mandate and drive performance from day one.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5-7 years experience covering Japanese financials, ideally coming from another hedge fund.
• Proven ability to generate alpha through fundamental research and idea generation.
• Strong track record of successful investments and generating alpha in this space.
• Strong understanding of Japanese market structure, regulatory environment, and corporate governance.
• Ability to work independently and build coverage from scratch.
• Japanese language proficiency is highly advantageous but not mandatory.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to shape a new coverage area.

Responsibilities:

• Lead research and idea generation across Japanese financials (banks, insurers, asset managers, fintech, etc.).
• Develop and maintain deep sector expertise, including regulatory trends, macro drivers, and competitive dynamics.
• Construct and manage a portfolio of high conviction long/short positions within the financials sector.
• Collaborate with PMs and other analysts to integrate insights into broader strategies.
