We are a team of three in-house lawyers in Japan, working closely with colleagues across APAC and our global Legal team. Together, we support the business by providing clear, practical legal advice across a wide range of matters.
This role is well suited to someone who wants broad in-house experience and regular exposure to international work. We handle commercial contracts, HR-related matters, disputes, and regulatory correspondence, including interactions with authorities such as the FTC and FSA.

What you'll be doing:
With review and guidance from senior colleagues at key decision points, you will:
- Draft, review and negotiate a range of agreements in English and Japanese, including client agreements, data licences, software and IP licences, consulting/services agreements, NDAs, and other standard and non-standard agreements related to sales of our products and services.
- Advise team members on legal issues, and help them understand options and risk trade-offs.
- Localise standard templates, and review outsourced translations of legal documents.
- Work with business, finance and operational teams to understand commercial context and support contract execution.
- Help us improve contracting processes and controls so that we can conclude agreements efficiently and meet contracting policy requirements.
- Track legal and regulatory developments relevant to the jurisdictions you support, and share updates with the team.
- Support regulatory correspondence and interactions where needed.
- Prepare for and take part in Legal training sessions for the business.
- Work with colleagues outside Japan.
- Help identify and assess legal risks and exposure, and support mitigations.
What you'll bring:
We're looking for someone who can work through issues carefully, communicate clearly, and collaborate well.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, and the ability to explain legal points in a way that helps the business make decisions.
- Japan bar qualification(弁護士)
- Strong written and spoken Japanese and English.
- Good judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to manage several matters at the same time.
- A team attitude and willingness to ask questions, share learning, and support colleagues.
- Comfortable with working with a range of partners across functions and seniority levels.
