Job Summary The Monitor Technician 2 oversees continuous monitoring of electrocardiograph tracings. They record, interpret, and document tracings for patients of all ages on telemetry monitors. This position follows the critical escalation path when needed. It recognizes and reports arrhythmias to medical or nursing staff. Essential Functions of the Role * Operates complex cardiac monitoring systems, including ECG rhythm screens, computerized dysrhythmia detection system and rhythm printers. * Observes and documents ECG monitors following guidelines. Reports necessary information to staff, including patient name, room number, cardiac rhythm, dysrhythmia, and life-threatening situations. * Maintains and monitors equipment/environment and reports any malfunctions to the appropriate maintenance department. * Sets up central station. Monitors alarms, troubleshoots false alarms, and corrects improper supervision placement. * Assists with rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia detection. Labels monitor strips for events like defibrillation, electrical-cardioversion, CPR, and code medication administration. * Records information in the patient's log and keeps an accurate, neat account of the patient's cardiac monitoring status during care. Identifies and records the patient's rhythm and changes in rhythm and condition. * Serves as Monitor Tech Supervisor in the assigned unit or department. Directs, coordinates, and oversees Monitor Tech Staff operations. Ensures the highest quality patient care and proper competencies. * Performs other duties as required by leadership in a competent, professional, and courteous manner. Adheres to policies and procedures. Purposefully disseminates information as appropriate. Ensures proper coverage of personnel. Maintains clear communication with leadership regarding unit needs and incidents. Key Success Factors * Completes required competencies annually. * Knowledge of heart anatomy and physiology related to waves, complexes, time, and voltage through the conduction system and strip interpretation. Knowledge of telemetry services. * Ability to oversee personnel effectively and efficiently. * Verbal and written communication skills. * Interpersonal skills. * Ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team. * Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in the workload and work schedules. * Ability to set priorities, make critical judgments, and respond quickly to emergencies. * Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
