Description
This job is located in the Development Center of the Development Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of the Chief Plans Examiner. An employee in this classification performs work requiring knowledge and skills acquired prior to assuming the position. Essential job functions include: reviewing and evaluating plans and specifications for compliance with City building codes and zoning ordinances; assisting the public with technical code information and permit processes; and writing technical reports or correspondence pertaining to various projects. This job requires considerable contact with contractors, citizens, and City employees in the interpretation of City codes, ordinances, and policies. The employee may assign work and provide technical supervision to Code Technicians. Work is reviewed by a supervisor for quality, accuracy of information, and adherence to proper policies and procedures.

Requirements
- Knowledge of relevant building, zoning, engineering, and land use codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Skill in interpreting and evaluating plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Skill in determining and locating appropriate information sources.
- Skill in written and verbal communication.
- Skill in making logical inferences and drawing valid conclusions.
- Skill in reading and interpreting legal descriptions.
- Skill in recording information accurately.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to supervise.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Possession of International Code Council (ICC) Building Plans Examiner Certification.
NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid International Code Council Building (ICC) Plans Examiner Certification within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining a valid ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
