Job Duties
The Postdoctoral Researcher will:
- Conduct spatial data processing and aggregation of Census Block Group (CBG) data to Traffic Analysis Zones (TAZs) using GIS-based intersection and proportional allocation methods.
- Generate multimodal origin-destination (OD) routes using the Maryland Statewide Transportation Model (MSTM) and compute travel attributes, including travel time, Level of Traffic Stress (LTS), parking cost, and related variables.
- Develop, calibrate, and validate advanced mode choice models incorporating observed and unobserved heterogeneity, using household travel survey data.
- Estimate and assign travel demand across auto, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian modes at the TAZ level by trip purpose and time of day.
- Conduct scenario-based analyses (e.g., Complete Streets implementation) to evaluate modal shifts and policy impacts.
- Update and refine modal split tables within MSTM for base and future-year scenarios.
- Enhance LTS-based mode choice models by incorporating disaggregated safety and traffic metrics (e.g., speed, risk, time-of-day variations).
- Prepare technical reports, peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, conference presentations, and documentation for project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with faculty investigators, graduate students, and agency partners to ensure timely completion of project milestones.
Requested Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Other Preferences for Consideration
- Strong background in travel demand modeling, discrete choice modeling, or transportation econometrics.
