IMPA – Regulatory and Compliance Counsel
The Indiana Municipal Power Agency is a joint action agency created by Indiana’s municipal utilities to provide their complete wholesale power supply and electric transmission delivery. IMPA’s headquarters are located in Carmel, Indiana. At IMPA, we support 61 communities in Indiana and Ohio through providing low-cost, reliable, and environmentally responsible electricity, as well as a variety of other services to help in the overall success of each town or city.
Our team is seeking an attorney with an innate sense of attention to detail to provide legal advice and counsel to IMPA, particularly relating to regulatory and compliance matters. Depending on experience, the successful candidate may be hired as Senior Regulatory and Compliance Counsel. This full-time position will be based in our Carmel office.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
- A Juris Doctor degree and at least three years of related legal experience, preferably with FERC, NERC, EPA, IURC or IDEM, or with a law firm practicing before those agencies.
- Membership in the Indiana Bar or eligible to become a member within six months.
- Strong organizational, business, software, and interpersonal skills.
- Prior experience with NERC compliance is not required but would make you a strong contender.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Participating as our representative in NERC compliance matters.
- Developing, maintaining and revising our NERC and environmental compliance programs and working with subject matter experts to incorporate new and revised standards.
- Monitoring and commenting on proposed federal and state regulatory rules that could impact our business and making recommendations to management.
- Monitoring and commenting on MISO or PJM matters.
- Working with our General Counsel to prepare and review contracts, amendments and other legal documents as necessary.

Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree
