Summary: Applies principles of accounting to manage the Sales and Property Tax process. This process would include calculating, preparing and administering different types of tax returns by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Working with management to design, document and implement a system to automate tax return preparation for Sales and Property taxes. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual sales tax returns. Prepare quarterly estimated tax payments. Prepares monthly reports and reconciliations of tax accounts. Work with vendors to provide proper Sales Tax exemption certificates. Work with state tax auditors during compliance audits for sales and property taxes. Coordinates all aspects of state audits including negotiations of audit findings. Prepare Income Tax Provision work papers for outside auditors. Work with parent company personnel on any tax issues that may arise. Prepare 1099's. Prepare Canadian GST and PST Tax Returns. Prepare W-9 form. Prepares appropriate schedules for annual audit. Monitor systems to insure data integrity for tax reporting purposes. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The candidate should be a self-starter, organized, aggressive but not overbearing, have people skills, perform with a high degree of accuracy, and is deadline orientated. Also should be able to multi task, prioritize, and make decisions. Education/Experience: Accounting degree (B.B.A.) with a minimum two to four years experience preparing sales tax returns and handling compliance audits. Implementation of tax systems is a strong plus. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contracts, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from state taxing authority or members of the S. P. Richards business community. Ability to effectively present information to middle and top management and auditors. Math Ability: Ability to apply mathematical operations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret data. Computer Skills: Excel is a MUST, Word processing, Spreadsheets, Accounting software, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, E-mail, Working knowledge of Sales and Property Tax software systems, Peoplesoft is a plus Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the environment is quiet. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
