WJXT/WCWJ is seeking a creative, innovative, and ambitious Special Projects Photographer to join our award-winning team. Position Overview
As a Special Projects Photographer, you will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering compelling, visually driven news specials and segments across all platforms. You'll write, shoot, edit, and produce enterprising, high-quality content that reflects the heart of our community. This position requires a blend of creativity, technical skill, editorial judgment, and project management to produce powerful journalism that resonates with viewers and online audiences alike.
Responsibilities
• Identify, develop, shoot, and produce a variety of special projects including investigations, weather specials, community initiatives and live events.
• Capture and edit high-quality video and audio for broadcast, OTT, and digital platforms under tight deadlines.
• Collaborate with reporters, anchors, and producers to craft visually compelling stories that inform and engage.
• Incorporate creative graphics, data visualization, and clean editing to enhance storytelling.
• Engage in social listening and leverage independent sources to generate original story ideas.
• Write and post stories across all digital and social media platforms, ensuring cross-platform consistency.
• Serve as a field producer and photographer on location, coordinating logistics and executing live or recorded coverage.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and creativity.
• Foster strong community relationships and establish clear calls to action in coverage.
• Troubleshoot technical issues in the field and uphold broadcast standards.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
• Proven experience producing and/or shooting news specials, features, or related content with a strong portfolio of storytelling across platforms.
• Proficiency in non-linear editing and photojournalism using Edius and/or Adobe Premiere; experience with ENPS, iNews, and Grass Valley a plus.
• Proficiency with a vast array of camera/video equipment; including Panasonic cameras, GoPro, DJI Osmo, etc.
• Demonstrated understanding of ENG/SNG operations, lighting, and field audio; satellite truck experience a plus.
• Strong editorial judgment, creativity, and digital media savvy.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, meeting tight deadlines under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of gear and shoulder an ENG camera for extended periods.
• Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Broadcast Production, or related field.
• Recognized achievement in innovative storytelling or NPPA-style reporting.
• Advanced proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Creative Cloud, and/or data visualization tools.
• Licensed Part 107 remote drone pilot
• Creative abilities in graphic design and visual storytelling.
