The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), Bureau of Engineering and Construction, District 3 Surveys Section, is looking to hire a Transportation Engineer Trainee (Land Surveyor) with a target class of Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering) in New Haven.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Location: New Haven.
Full Time, 40 hours per week.
Monday through Friday.
First Shift, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM
A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required and must be maintained.
P-4 (Engineering and Scientific) bargaining unit.
Applicants must be available to travel.
THE ROLE
The District 3 Surveys section performs various types of land surveying, including topographic mapping, boundary and construction surveys. The Transportation Engineer Trainee (Land Surveyor) will be able to perform and learn to:
Operate survey field instruments, such as conventional and robotic Total Stations, Auto and Digital Levels, GPS receivers, and LiDAR scanners.
Use surveying software to perform complex computations.
Use Microstation/Bentley OpenRoads CADD (computer aided design and drafting) to prepare, revise and edit land surveys for mapping.
Develop topographic mapping and DTM’s (Digital Terrain Models) for future Highway and Railroad construction projects and support ongoing construction projects.
Perform related duties as required inside the office and outdoors in the field year-round
The ideal Transportation Engineer Trainee (Land Surveyor) will:
Possess general knowledge of land surveying and transportation.
Have experience with construction engineering theories, principles, and methods.
Be skilled in computer aided design software (MicroStation preferred) and other computer. applications including Word and Excel, Teams, and Bluebeam
Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Possess organizational and interpersonal skills.
Possess the ability to read and analyze construction plans and estimates.
Be comfortable working in both office and field environments year-round.
Requirements
Possession of a Bachelor's degree.
NOTE: If the target job classification has a Minimum Qualification that requires specific licensure and/or the Bachelor's degree to be in a specific area(s), then these specific licensures and degree areas are required for appointment to the Transportation Engineer Trainee classification. Candidates cannot be appointed until all degree requirements are complete.
