Description
RECRUITMENT ENCOURAGEMENT PROGRAM
To help attract and retain employees so that BASTA Universal can hire the necessary number of attorneys, BU has implemented the Recruitment Encouragement Program. The Recruitment Encouragement Program consists as follows:
For a licensed attorney referred to and hired as a full-time employee:
- The referring individual will be paid $2,500 during the first regular organization payroll following the 30th day from the new employee’s actual start date (not the date when the new employee accepted the job offer).
- A referring individual does not have to be an employee to qualify for this recruitment program. For a non-employee who refers a candidate, payment will be contingent upon the referring individual providing a properly completed W9 tax form. In turn, the referring individual will receive a 1099-NEC tax form at the end of the calendar year.
- The referring individual will be paid $7,500 during the first regular organization payroll following the 300th day from the new employee’s actual start date (basically after 10 months), assuming the new employee remains employed with the organization at that time. If the new employee departs the organization’s employment beforehand, voluntarily or otherwise, the second payment will not happen.
About
BASTA Universal! (BU) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to fighting housing inequality and housing insecurity by defending the rights of tenants throughout Los Angeles County. We believe that housing is a human right, and we are committed to zealous advocacy, working tirelessly to make a real difference in the lives of our clients and in the systems that harm them.
As one of the largest free housing legal services providers in Los Angeles County, BU is proud to be a core member of the Stay Housed LA (SHLA) program and the Right to Counsel (RTC) coalition, which recently helped establish a legal right to counsel for tenants facing eviction in the City of Los Angeles. We represent tenants in nine courthouses and operate four full-service offices across the county.
We understand that people’s lives move in many directions – bad, good, complicated, and very bad. Many of our employees and affiliates are experiencing second-chance opportunities with us. We are proudly committed to fostering growth, inclusion, and advancement for everyone in our organization.
